Exercise counseling

Exercise counseling is a free service aimed at individually and purposefully enhancing a client’s overall well-being and physical activity, as well as finding ways to reduce everyday inactivity. The counseling is based on the individual’s interests, needs, and goals. The target group is working-age adults.

Exercise counseling is currently offered to working-age residents who are not physically active enough for their health.

In exercise counseling, the client’s life situation is considered in a strength-based manner, and it is also possible to generally address other factors relevant to life management, such as the amount of sleep and rest, as well as eating habits. The aim is to identify thoughts and beliefs that influence physical inactivity and to explore what would motivate the client to be physically active.

The content of physical activity counseling is largely shaped by what the client considers meaningful and necessary for themselves. The duration of the service may vary, but as a minimum, in addition to the initial and final meetings, there is at least one follow-up meeting, possibly more. The service may also include exercising together.

Physical activity counseling offered by municipalities is part of the nationwide Suomi liikkelle (Finland on the Move) program. The purpose of the program is to enhance people’s opportunities to move more diversely as part of everyday life.

News: The exercise counseling service will be revamped by the end of 2025!

Registration for sports counseling is currently on hold – we will inform you about changes to the service and its restart once the renewal is complete – so stay tuned!

Exercise counseling in Tervola is provided by wellness coach Hanna-Kaisa.

I have a degree in Sports Coaching (Bachelor of Sports Education). The studies I included in Sports Psychology (20 ECTS) and my internship in mental coaching (15 ECTS) have given me valuable understanding and insight into the fact that a shift towards a more active lifestyle requires more than just new running shoes and relentless discipline. It is especially important to find the meaning of exercise for yourself and to discover your own ways without worrying about what your neighbor Matti or Helena does and how many times a week. The enjoyment of doing comes through your own interests and increases internal motivation toward making choices for a more active daily life.

See you in sports counseling!
