Use the library according to your own schedule

The Tervola Library also operates as a self-service library, allowing you to use the library every day between 7 AM and 10 PM, including weekends. Staff are available during the regular opening hours.

You can use the library independently even when staff are not present. During self-service hours, customers can borrow and return materials using the automated system and pick up reserved items from the reservation shelf on their own. Staff-provided customer service is not available during this time. Public computers, wireless network, and the periodicals reading room are available for customers to use. However, copying, printing, paying library fees, and information services are only available during regular customer service hours.

Available for all ages

The self-service library can be used by anyone who has a valid Lapland Library card and the associated four-digit PIN code.

Children under 15 years old can obtain self-service library access with the consent of a guarantor registered in the library’s customer database. Self-service access for children under 15 must be applied for separately in person at the library. The guardian/guarantor applies for the minor customer’s self-service library access and is responsible for their use of the library.

A self-service library user, upon receiving their library card, has committed with their signature to comply with the usage rules of the Lapland Library and the Tervola self-service library. However, access may be blocked if necessary, for example, due to disruptive behavior. If a customer’s library card has been restricted in the Lapland Library customer database, logging in during self-service hours will not be possible. Exceeding the debt limit or having overdue loans does not prevent logging in.

Log in with your library card

The self-service library is accessed with a library card and a PIN code. The PIN code is the same one used in the online library, and you can obtain it from the library’s customer service during normal service hours.

To enter the self-service library, scan the barcode on your library card at the card reader next to the library’s main entrance and enter your PIN code, which will unlock the door. Customers must ensure that no one else enters the building or library at the same time the door is opened, except for their own children.

Everyone entering the self-service library must log in. Children can come with an adult without logging in, and they must also leave at the same time.

When the library closes and switches to self-service hours, patrons must leave the library and log in again as a customer.

Borrow and return

The library has a self-service machine that can be used for returning and borrowing items. Returned materials should be placed in the nearby cart or locked cabinet according to the instructions on the machine’s screen. If there are problems using the self-service library or the self-service machine, the customer is obliged to clarify any issues with the staff during customer service hours without delay. Until then, the customer is responsible for the materials registered to their library card.

Picking up reservations during self-service hours

The customer can also borrow the reserved material independently after receiving a arrival notification. The arrival notification includes a reservation identifier, and the reserved material is in the library on a book trolley next to the service desk, arranged according to the reservation identifier. Reserved material can only be borrowed with the library card of the person who made the reservation.

Technical problems

Potential technical issues with computers and the machine can only be resolved when staff are present. If the machine does not read the barcode on the material, it can only be borrowed during customer service hours.

Emergencies

For emergencies, a general emergency number (112) and the municipality’s on-call number for property-related issues are posted on the notice board and next to the machine.

The library has recording camera surveillance, which is subject to the Personal Data Act (1050/2018). The customer who triggers the property alarm is responsible for any costs resulting from the alarm.
