Self-service library access
Use the library at a time that suits you. With self-service access, you can visit Tervola library every day from 7 AM to 10 PM, including weekends and public holidays. Library staff are available during staffed opening hours.
You can use the library independently during self-service library hours, even when staff are not present. During these hours, you can borrow and return items using the self-service machine and collect reserved items from the reservation shelf. While staff assistance is not available during self-service library hours, you can use the public computers, free Wi‑Fi, and the newspaper and magazine reading area. Copying, printing, payment of library fees, and information services are available only during staffed opening hours.
Who can use the self-service library?
The self-service library is available to anyone with a valid Libraries of Lapland library card and a four-digit PIN.
Children under the age of 15 may use the self-service library with the consent of a parent or guardian. Self-service access for children under 15 must be applied for in person at the library. The parent or guardian is responsible for the child’s use of the self-service library.
By using a library card, customers agree to follow the rules of the Libraries of Lapland and Tervola self-service library. Access to the self-service library may be suspended if necessary, for example in cases of disruptive behaviour.
If a library card has been blocked in the Libraries of Lapland system, self-service access is not available. Overdue loans or outstanding fees do not prevent access to the self-service library.
Accessing the self-service library
To use the self-service library, you need a library card and a PIN code. The PIN code is the same one you use in the Libraries of Lapland online library. If you do not have a PIN code yet, you can obtain one from library customer service during staffed opening hours.
To enter the library, scan your library card at the card reader next to the main entrance and enter your PIN code. The door will unlock automatically.
Please make sure that only you and any children accompanying you enter when the door opens. Do not allow other visitors to enter with your library card.
Everyone using the self-service library must register their entry with a library card. Children may enter with an accompanying adult and do not need to register separately. Children must also leave the library together with the accompanying adult.
When staffed opening hours end and the library switches to self-service mode, all visitors must re-enter using their library card and PIN code at the self-service machine.
Borrowing and returning
You can borrow and return items using the self-service machine. Returned items should be placed in the return trolley or locked return cabinet, following the instructions displayed on the self-service machine.
If you experience any problems using the self-service library or the self-service machine, please contact library staff as soon as possible during staffed opening hours. Until the matter has been resolved, you remain responsible for all items borrowed on your library card.
Collecting reserved items
You can collect and borrow your reserved items during self-service library hours once you have received a notification that they are ready for collection. Your notification includes a reservation number. Reserved items can be found on the reservation trolley next to the service desk, arranged according to this number.
Reserved items can only be borrowed using the library card of the customer who made the reservation.
Technical issues
Technical issues with public computers and the self-service machine can only be resolved during staffed opening hours. If the self-service machine is unable to read an item’s barcode, the item can only be borrowed during staffed opening hours.
Emergencies
In an emergency, call 112. The municipality’s on-call number for property-related emergencies is displayed on the notice board and next to the self-service machine.
The library is monitored by security cameras. Camera surveillance is carried out in accordance with data protection legislation.
Customers are responsible for any costs incurred if they trigger the library’s security alarm.
