Early childhood special education
All children need experiences of success in learning as well as in their own activities. To make this possible, educators must take into account the individual needs of children in growth, development, and learning.
A child may, therefore, need support for physical, psychological, or social development, for example in language development, social skills, or learning readiness. Parents and daycare staff may also be concerned about the child’s individual development. Support for the child’s development and learning is provided as part of the daily activities of early childhood education. Support is primarily given through various individual and flexible arrangements within the child’s own group. The determination of the child’s need for support and the organization of support are included in the child’s early childhood education plan, which is regularly reviewed with the parents.
The early childhood special education teacher (VEO) is involved in the child’s everyday situations and supports early childhood education staff and the children’s parents in their educational work. The special education teacher visits the child group and participates in the department’s educational discussions whenever necessary. The shared goal is to promote and support the growth and learning of both the child and the child group. If parents are concerned about their child’s development, they can contact the early childhood special education teacher.
